Marie-Laure Salles

Marie-Laure Salles became the director of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in September 2020. Before this role, she was the dean of the School of Management and Innovation at Sciences Po Paris, which she launched in 2016. Previously, she served as a professor and held leadership roles at ESSEC Business School, including dean of faculty and associate dean of the doctoral program.

Salles holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Harvard University and an advanced research qualification from Dauphine University in Paris. Her research covers topics such as the role of social networks in transnational diffusion of practices and the historical transformation of capitalism and national institutions, with a focus on corporate social responsibility and the changing dynamics of global economic governance. She has published extensively and received multiple awards, including the Max Weber Award for Distinguished Scholarship from the American Sociological Association in 2000. Salles has also held visiting professor positions at prominent institutions in the U.S. and Europe, received an honorary doctorate from Stockholm University, and was awarded the French Legion of Honor in 2017.
