Mobilising the outcomes of the Summit of the Future
Globethics was honoured to be part of a consortium of international partners holding a high-level side event, entitled "From Ideas to Acton and Impact: mobilizing the outcomes of the Summit of the Future", at the United Nations Summit of the Future Action Days.
The event was organised together with the UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES Coalition, The Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales, ASU Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory, ASU Center for Science and the Imagination, The Club of Rome, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, World Academy of Art and Science, Learning Planet Institute, Leonardo/ISAST, Tamkeen Community Foundation for Human Development, and the School of International Futures (SOIF).
The event, moderated by Steven Hartman, Executive Director of UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES Coalition, was met with a full house and counted the insights of remarkable speakers including Derek Walker, Kenneth Nsah, Peter Schlosser, Ellen Dixon, Garry Jacobs, Mamphela Ramphele, Gabriela Ramos, Nolita Thina Mvunelo, Kim Stanley Robinson and Leonie Hoffmann.
- Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences of UNESCO, Gabriela Ramos, reflected, "It was inspiring to be at the From Ideas to Action side event with a group of such committed people and institutions under the UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES Coalition. As the Pact for the Future does, we need to recognize our responsibility with future generations and youth in how we handle the many transitions we are confronting: climate, digital, demography, migration. It takes better science and commitment to change!"
- Renowned writer Kim Stanley Robinson, author of Ministry for the Future, reminded us that "The people of the future are already among us—and we need to give them a voice. Change isn’t easy, and we’ll face resistance in many different ways. For a better, more sustainable future, persistence is key."
Focusing on the inclusion of younger generations in global governance, Globethics organized a preparatory youth consultation during the Global Ethics Forum (GEF). The resulting report is available here.

Globethics' Executive Director, Fadi Daou, contributed to the discussions surrounding the launch of the Pact for the Future and its 2 related annexes: the Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations. “Despite the disappointments already expressed about the limitations of the Pact for the Future in offering the needed institutional transformations to cope with current and future global governance challenges, it remains and will be perceived and used as a foundational agreement between all nations and populations to build a brighter future for all, while looking for its enhancement and continuous development in practice”.
He also stressed the importance of making the Pact more inclusive and ensuring it is built upon a strong ethical framework to effectively meet future global challenges.
