Ethics and Values for Teaching Professionals and Administrators (Christ Academy)
"We make roads by walking," says Paulo Freire, the educational theorist who emphasised the purpose of education both inside and outside the classroom. Higher education should contribute to the social, political, and economic well-being of society, and this can only be achieved through the practice of ethics in teaching, administration, evaluation, certification, and leadership training.
In a competitive, career-driven environment where individualism often prevails, universities and colleges struggle to implement ethical practices in higher education. This challenge is not due to a lack of opportunity but rather a shortage of time and dedicated faculty who can invest in ethical considerations through thought and action. Faculty require a special set of skills, along with strengthened motivation and commitment to ethics.
Globethics offers an international perspective and a structured methodology to empower educators at higher education institutions to uphold their commitment to ethics. By providing focused and customised training, Globethics aims to create an ecosystem that promotes ethical practices in higher education.
To achieve this vision, a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) has been designed in collaboration with Christ Academy Institute of Law, Bangalore, encouraging faculty to become active partners rather than mere promoters or event managers. For transformation to take place, faculty members must be respected for their role as ethical leaders. When they are valued, they can effect significant change.
Thus, the aim of this FDP is to foster a culture of respect and partnership, recognising that this journey is ongoing, not a destination. We look forward to building a lifelong collaboration with institutions of higher education in this endeavour.
